Mount Usher, set in 22 acres of gardens along the banks of the River Vartry in County Wicklow, is a truly beautiful example of the "Robinsonian" style of informal layout and the use of the natural landscape. The garden is laid out with a natural feel and has a "free-flowing informality".
The garden was started by Edward Walpole Snr in 1868. The original site was formerly a mill, hence the cascades and pools, and evolved to host a wonderful collection of plants and trees.
Only half an hour from Dublin, Mount Usher is close to Wicklow and Bray towns, historic Glendalough and beautiful Luggala. This garden is definitely worth a visit.
