Dún Laoghaire is a bustling harbour town approximately 10 miles south of Dublin City and the administrative capital of Dún Laoghaire Rathdown County.
The name means "Laoghaire's (Leary's) Fort".
Laoghaire was a local king who is reputed to have sold a slave called Patrick approximately 1,600 years ago. Patrick later became St. Patrick, the patron saint of Ireland.
The County motto is "From the Harbour to the Mountains".
The area contains some of Ireland's most beautiful coastal views and wonderful scenic hill walks, an abundance of parks and recreational amenities ranging from horse racing and skiing to cinemas and nightlife.
Being home to many of Ireland's most famous sons & daughters, Dún Laoghaire has something to offer everyone.
